A Moment With Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Sad

She was desperate to find beauty

where there was none –

The mountain lion is a private creature

detritus of the modern age,

we long gave up on its preservation

in the American terrain.

Marilyn sang a dirge with great sadness

for the lone cat. The chanteuse is all things:

deeply personal and dead in the armory,

strangled by some pursuit of happiness.

Her charm hunts us still/ugly

lovers of the golden age.
