This past Winter I went out of the house in full-dude drag. Head-to-to, binding and all. It was a totally unique and amazing experience to see how people react to clothing, mannerisms, and lack of boobs on a female. Genderfucking, the act of messing with traditional notions of gender identity and gender roles, is actually a great way to be a little more aware of how society treats men, women, male-identity, female-identity, and people that fall in-between the gender spectrum. It can go from a female wearing men’s clothes or a male wearing a skirt and a beard.
As much as I love my femme identity, sometimes I wake up and want to partake in a totally different gender expression. We don’t always fall on the far right or far left of most things…so why should we stick to that when we express ourselves? However, sometimes when you have more curves it’s hard to pick out what might look best with clothes that normally have a straight-form (like most male-centric clothing). Not to worry. I’ve found some standards. Feeling a little brave? Try something new this Fall.
Here are some idea for classic masculine and feminine looks:
Gender Expression: External manifestation of one’s gender identity, usually expressed through “masculine,” “feminine” or gender-variant behavior, clothing, haircut, voice or body characteristics.
